Craig Kiss Biography

Craig Kiss is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist and constructor whose artist biography reflects a diverse practice that encompasses painting, sculpture, and raw assemblage. Centered around the intersectional declaration—"I am human, I am animal, and I am queer"—Kiss’s work represents a vital quest for survival, freedom, and radical self-discovery in the realm of contemporary art.

Driven by an exploration of alienation and the transformative power of being "other," Kiss employs an instinctual, energetic approach to mark-making and utilizes an extensive range of tactile media. His artworks do not merely occupy space; they actively construct it, building alternative visual sanctuaries that exist entirely beyond traditional social constructs, rigid masculine or feminine roles, and systemic repression.

Hovering in a liminal environment between the physical and the spiritual, the grounded and the weightless, Kiss’s morphing forms create a bridge between internal psychological realities and external landscapes. His creations serve a dual purpose as both functional gear—the masks and tools needed to navigate the unknown—and an open invitation to his audience.

His work has garnered wide recognition for its raw emotional urgency and its direct challenge to viewers, urging them to step outside conventional boundaries, share a specific moment in time, and peer directly through his gaze. Craig Kiss currently lives and works out of his studio, where he continues to expand his ongoing visual vocabulary of identity and absolute freedom.
